Year 11 Dance Students Participate in Traditional Aboriginal Dance Workshop

Year 11 Dance participated in a traditional Aboriginal Dance workshop led by Stuart McMinn of the Minning Minni Kaiwarrine Cultural Dance Company. Students learnt about Aboriginal kinship, Aboriginal family structure and Spiritual ancestors/totems giving them a better understanding of how Aboriginal dance originated, it's purpose and how it has evolved over time.

The students learnt traditional dances which imitated the movements of four important ancestors: the emu, kangaroo, goanna and echidna, using costume, song and clapping sticks to further enhance the experience.

The Aboriginal dance workshop was an enriching experience which provided our dance students with a deeper knowledge of Aboriginal culture and traditional Aboriginal dance.
