MSB students feature in ABC Radio interview on domestic violence prevention lessons in schools
Year 10 and 11 girls from Mount St Benedict College have featured in an ABC Radio interview on the introduction of domestic violence education into the NSW syllabus. The girls’ made a ground-breaking video in 2015 to break down the taboo around the issue of domestic violence as part of their work with the Student Alliance Network Group (an initiative of the Alliance of Girls Schools Australasia).
Their video titled #1MINUTE addressing domestic violence was launched on the Mount St Benedict Facebook page - the girls did not expect much of a response outside of their own College community. Within 19 hours it had been viewed over 14,000 times and shared 730 times. Now four months later the video has been viewed 183,000 times and shared by over 4,000 people. The NSW Police are also using the video as a resource in their Domestic Violence Education Unit.
