Four HSC TAS Major Works Feature in Exemplary Nominations

Congratulations to the following four Mount St Benedict College Year 12 students who have been nominated for Shape 2020 and InTech exhibitions that showcase exemplary TAS Major Projects in the areas of Design and Technology and Industrial Technology from the 2020 Higher School Certificate examinations*.

Design and Technology

Olivia-Rose Tarantolo
Redesign and manufacture an alternate back brace for individuals with scoliosis, that focuses on improving the overall wellbeing of the developing female adolescent. Olivia-Rose investigated how the brace develops simultaneously with the developing client. She manipulated multiple aspects of the current brace to focus more on the client’s wellbeing, whilst also highly considering the medical components of the brace.

Lillie Ward

Create an extendable and expandable school uniform to last a female primary school student from kindergarten Year Six. This was a two-fold design: to minimise the environmental costs of the materials required for the garment, as well as the financial costs of constantly purchasing garments to replace those outgrown or damaged.

Industrial Technology

Sarah-Jane Grima

Features a complicated love story using the songs Hollywood’s Bleeding by Post Malone and Teeth by 5 Seconds of Summer. The concept is developed through the understanding gained within both songs which is the story of love, loss and a broken relationship. This is showcased through digital platforms like Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop and After Effects to show how relationships are a unique human experience. Following the story of an engaged couple caught between their love for one another but also their individual vulnerability, Sarah-Jane's project aims to convey that relationships aren’t always perfect.

Gabrielle Vaggis

Two Sides is a short film about how social media depicts a fake side that is presented to the audience but, there is always a flawed side that nobody knows about. The main protagonist finds a DVD that discusses the controversial themes of social media. The audience is drawn to the concept of inception as the DVD appears on screen. The film displays a variety of scenarios all evolving around the two sides of social media presenting a range of social media used by adolescence and displays a range of situations and the effects they have. This includes a girl caught in a lie by cancelling plans with her friend to “babysit” but, in reality, she is going to a party instead. This is revealed through social media. The second scenario depicts a social media influencer that fakes her life on social media, pretending to live a perfect life which slowly reveals that her life is ‘average’, and being exposed for who she truly is - focusing the point of cancelled culture - a prevalent social media issue.

Best wishes to our Design and Technology class (21 students), Industrial Technology Multimedia class (7 students) and Textiles and Design class (7 students) as they await their HSC results in mid-December.

Congratulations to the girls and the expertise of their teachers.
