'Battle of the Chefs' Success for Mount St Benedict College

Mount St Benedict College students showcased their outstanding skills and competencies at The Battle of the Chefs Competition held on the Central Coast in May. The College's Year 12 Hospitality Team placed second, competing against Catholic high schools in the Broken Bay Diocese.

In the lead up to the competition, each school worked as a team to reproduce the recipes provided and prepare their own standard recipes, workflows and presentation ideas for three courses to present to TAFE judges on the day.

Elise Spurr, Gabrielle George and Stephanie Zwaine from the Year 12 Hospitality class worked together after school and in the holidays leading up to the competition. The girls practised and fine-tuned their ideas and developed three courses that incorporated the set ingredients and presentation ideas to meet industry standards.

Year 12 Hospitality Teacher, Tracey Blane guided the team as they prepared for the competition.

"It was a great opportunity for our students to push their technical and professional skills (developed at school within their VET course) to the limit and have the opportunity to benchmark their abilities against other students across the Diocese."

"In a high standard competition, Bennies girls were outstanding demonstrating teamwork, communication and precision in their practical skills."
