2017 Year 10 STEMM Seminar
Female Role Models Inspire STEMM Careers
MSB Year 10 students attended a STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine) breakfast networking seminar at the Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAN) in Wahroonga in mid-June.
Eleven inspirational female medical professionals from The SAN spoke about their journey to a career in STEMM with career paths ranging from a Neuropsychologist to a Radiation Oncologist.
The medical speakers introduced the girls to the benefits of advanced technology and the intricate work of surgery as well as focusing on how they reached the point they are at today.
Throughout the seminar, the girls were encouraged to challenge the male-dominated areas of STEMM - only 16% of STEMM qualified professionals are female, and 3% of Orthopaedic Surgeons are women.
The seminar was a valuable opportunity to meet women who have succeeded in their STEMM careers and learn about the options available to students after high school.
