Welcome back to the 2021 school year. Whether you were able to get away for a holiday at all, or had a staycation, I hope all our families had a safe, happy and holy Christmas period, and that your daughters return to school rested and refreshed. I want to add a special welcome to our new Year 7 families and also the many families whose daughters have joined us for other years throughout the College.

Despite wishing it were not so, the pandemic continues, and we have received further advice about the conduct of school life for at least Term One. We will continue our COVID-19 Updates to parents as required, as restrictions, customs and practices change. It is certainly our wish to return to as much normality as possible this year. The first of the 2021 COVID-19 Updates will be sent on Monday. One of the significant changes is mandatory masks on school buses and public transport generally. Students will need to bring a mask with them each day, as our Dean of Students, Mrs Jarrett details in her message below.

I am very excited to welcome our new staff, and they are introduced in Mrs Keogh’s message below. We have been able to recruit highly qualified and experienced staff for leadership positions, including Mrs Corinna Bailey as the Dean of Learning Science and Innovation. Additional teaching staff have been engaged as our College grows to over 1100 students this year.

During the break, the long-awaited replacement of the entire F Block roof, which was damaged during the hailstorms last February, was completed. This has also brought back several classrooms that have been out of use for that period.

Significantly, our Canteen has been replaced by a walkthrough Café and relocated to the old gym area. Work was affected by the lockdown in December and we expect it will be open for business in Week Two for full service to students. At this stage, we would like all students to bring their food and drink in the first week, as the final commissioning of the new Café takes place.

An additional new TAS multi-media space has been developed in the area where the Canteen was previously located. We are also excited to have classes being held in the MSB Centre for the first time in 2021.

I look forward to seeing as many parents as possible (in a socially distanced way of course!) at functions this year, when restrictions allow. Like you, I missed the in-person connection with our community last year and, I hope to see more of you in person throughout the year.

I write to officially welcome all families to the 2021 academic year. The 2021 academic year commences for students in Years 7,11 and 12 on Wednesday 27 January. The whole school will be in attendance on Thursday 28 January. Traditionally, we have had photos taken in the first week of school. This year, our College photos will be taken in Term Two. We continue to work hard and adapt plans to ensure your daughters are provided with the best care we can provide in an ever changing COVID-19 environment. We will continue to communicate with you regularly as advice changes and the situation evolves.

During 2021 our College community will focus on the Benedictine value of Stewardship, which is one of the three core values which guide our community in our Catholic, Benedictine tradition. The other two values are Pax (Peace) and Hospitality. The focus on Stewardship in 2021 will enable us to reflect seriously on what it means to live according to this rich tradition which is the foundation of our community life and respond meaningfully to the ecological challenges facing our world.

Welcome to a new year and a fresh start.

I love stationery. Nothing gives me more pleasure than an empty notebook and a sharp pencil. I think it is the promise of possibilities. A new year is even better!!

It is our aim for 2021 to make sure all parents across the College have the opportunity to meet with teachers and discuss the academic growth of their daughter. Parent Teacher interviews will happen for each year group in some format.

I am very excited to be joining the Teaching and Learning Team at the College for 2021. Sandy Matthews (Deputy Dean of Learning Science – Curriculum) and I are keen to spend time exploring the continuum with staff and students between Quality Learning and Quality Teaching. The Heads of Department are listed below, we welcome three new Heads to our team. Please note if you have any academic concerns about your daughter's class, the first person to contact is the classroom teacher. The best way to contact them is directly via email.

Welcome to 2021! We are looking forward to seeing all our students again and I’d like to offer a particularly warm welcome to our new students and families to the MSB community.

Throughout 2020, the Cocurricular Team developed an implementation plan that provides a framework for the Cocurricular Program to grow in quality and breadth into the future. This work has led to the development of a model that will be officially launched this year.
